Dental Bridges

Dental bridges literally bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth.

One or more missing teeth can adversely affect the appearance and functionality of
your smile. Missing teeth can cause a change in occlusion (bite), shifting of the
teeth, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), speech impediments, an increased
risk for periodontal disease and a greater chance of tooth decay.

A bridge is made up of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap – these
two anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth – and a false tooth/teeth in
between. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys,
porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Dental bridges are supported by
natural teeth or implants.
Bridges can:

•Restore your smile
•Restore your ability to properly chew and speak
•Maintain the shape of your face
•Distribute the forces in your bite properly by
replacing missing teeth
•Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position
Crowns can:

support a large filling when there isn't enough tooth
attach a bridge.
protect weak teeth from fracturing.
cover badly shaped or discolored teeth.
cover a dental implant.
restore a tooth after having Root Canal Therapy.
One of our main goals is to create crowns that look like your natural teeth. Many
factors such as color, shape, function and location must be considered. Crowns can
be made from a number of materials including gold, porcelain and other
semi-precious metals.
